Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (2024)

Highlights

  • Crafting in Final Fantasy 14 can be a lucrative side hustle, with some jobs offering more Gil-making potential than others.
  • Leveling gatherer jobs alongside crafters can enhance your earning potential and provide valuable resources for crafting.
  • While some crafting jobs like Goldsmith and Leatherworker are highly profitable, others like Fishing and Culinarian may offer less in terms of wealth generation.

Although many newer players see Final Fantasy 14 as a sprawling MMORPG where you have to spend countless hours grinding to clear the latest raid tier, it doesn’t have to be like that. Many players enjoy the game as a sort of life simulator, where they can cook, craft, and sell their wares to the local citizens of their Home World.

Final Fantasy 14: All Ultimate Raid Weapon Sets, Ranked

Final Fantasy 14's Ultimate Raid Weapons are always the coolest-looking and best-performing weapons in the game, but which set was the best?

Leveling your crafting jobs opens up a brand-new area of the game that many players do not even touch. While tedious at times, the crafting system in Final Fantasy 14 is one of the ways in the game where you can make the most Gil.

Updated on May 31, 2024 by Jesus Morales: With the release of Dawntrail, many players are wondering which crafter job to focus on and tackle new content, but we decided to update the list to include the ever-so-important gatherer jobs as well! Crafters are some of the most useful jobs in the game, but they become so much more if you have leveled a gatherer alongside them.

Keep in mind that the best items for each job to gather/craft in order to make Gil will be server dependent. Check your market board to see what is selling.

11 Fisher

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (2)
  • Good Fish To Farm/Sell
    • Red Coral
    • Titanic Sawfish

While fishing can be a great way to kill some time, and even acquire some cool mounts, the usefulness of this gathering job is not too high. Through fishing, you can gather… well, fish. It may sound self-explanatory, but that’s just about all you can do with this job.

Not to say that it is not fulfilling. Fishing is quite fun, and it’s almost a minigame on its own, but the Twelve know you won’t be getting rich anytime soon by farming the fishing hole.

10 Culinarian

  • Great Recipes To Make
    • Jingha Curry
    • Jingha Biryani

You would think that one of the most important jobs in the world would be one of the most important online as well. The provider of the most delicious meals in the realm, sadly, falls short when compared to the rest of the crafters in Eorzea.

The Culinarian class can create many of the consumable food items useful in end-game raids, but even though they can provide some of the best EXP buffs, they are not as useful for players who have maxed out every job released at the moment.

9 Alchemist

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (4)
  • Potions To Craft (Depending On Content)
    • Potions
    • Ethers
    • Antidote

Alchemist is a great class to level, but it is less useful than the others.

Every Crossover Event In Final Fantasy 14 And When It Was

FF14 has hosted great crossover events with games both inside and outside of its parent franchise over the years — today we're recounting all of them.

Sure, Alchemist can make you a good amount of Gil, since they can craft different pots of dye that lovers of the glamour system will pay exorbitant amounts of Gil for, but the other items that are craftable, like potions or other tonics, don’t see enough use besides for the small buffs they can provide for top tier raiding parties trying to achieve a world first clear.

8 Carpenter

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (6)
  • Great Recipes To Craft
    • Mostly server dependent

There are two different routes that you can take when leveling Carpenter, you could start crafting weapons that include wooden materials such as many lances and spears, or you can solely dedicate your time to building furniture for a high Gil yield.

The biggest problem that Carpenters run into is the fact that most end-game weapons and armor are not craftable by the job, meaning that if you want to tackle some of the higher difficulty content you’ll have to look elsewhere for gear to equip for yourself and your raid party.

Your mileage may vary if you are one of the lucky few that owns a house.

7 Leatherworker

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (7)
  • Great Recipes To Craft/Sell
    • Any kind of hide

Not only is Leatherworker a great job to level due to its many recipes that you can craft and later sell in the market board, but it is also a versatile job when it comes to making Gil. As a Leatherworker, you can tan different hides of the many creatures you can encounter in Eorzea, then sell those hides at inflated prices in the market board (dependent on your home world, of course).

There are many crafters in the game who focus on a few jobs at a time, so Weavers who have not leveled Leatherworker will pay top coin for your animal hides.

6 Armorer

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (8)
  • Best Items To Craft
    • Minions
    • Chocobo Barding

Having a solid Armorer in your Free Company is one of the best people you can have in your corner. They can constantly provide you with brand-new shiny armored plates whenever a new patch launches, that way you are set for whatever new content you need to tackle.

Final Fantasy 14: 12 Rare Titles And How To Obtain Them

Lord it over other players with these hard-to-get titles.

Since most people need the newest gear to clear new content, these armor pieces sell for high amounts in the market board, making you a pretty nice profit for your trouble of seeking out rare materials while mining.

5 Blacksmith

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (10)
  • Best Items To Craft
    • Most Ingots

Just like Armorers, Blacksmiths are essential to players looking to keep up with any new content released in Final Fantasy 14. While Armorers can take care of the armor that your Warrior Of Light will be wearing, Blacksmiths can craft the finest edges you can find in a blade.

Being that Final Fantasy 14 is a game that mostly revolves around combat and weapons, having a Blacksmith handy will always be helpful. Sadly, they won’t know much about crafting a tome or staff for your caster jobs though.

4 Goldsmith

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (11)
  • Best Items To Craft
    • Current High Level Jewelry

While it may not seem that great on paper, Goldsmith is one of the most useful classes to level. They can craft precious jewelry that can be sold for high amounts of Gil and accessories with multiple Materia slots to maximize your DPS or healing for the hardest raids in the game.

Not only will players bid for your time as a crafter, but they will do so twice over since there are four different accessory slots that Goldsmith can craft items for, rather than the one or two that other crafters can.

3 Weaver

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (12)
  • Best Items To Craft
    • Popular Cloths
    • Glamour Pieces

Players see defeating giant golems and fantastical creatures in raids as the end-game content for Final Fantasy 14, but any veteran player will tell you that the real end-game is glamour. Weavers will craft any of that spiffy attire that you see players wearing while loitering about in Limsa Lominsa.

You spend countless hours perfecting your Warrior of Light in the character creation screen, so why not spend a thousand more leveling up the Weaver job to make some of the coolest digs in Eorzea?

2 Miner

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (13)
  • Best Items To Find
    • Most Common Ores

What are most weapons in Eorzea made of? That’s right. Iron. Now let’s go make some money. Miner is an incredible job to level up. You can find ores to create weapons or different minerals for alchemic reagents that will sell for a nice price tag in the market board.

The real money is in the gemstones, though. Goldsmiths would rather spend 30-60 hours crafting their jewelry rather than be out in the dangerous landscapes of Mor Dhona finding beautiful stones. That’s where you come in.

1 Botanist

Final Fantasy 14: All Crafting And Gathering Classes, Ranked By Usefulness (14)
  • Best Items To Gather
    • Rare Logs and Sand

Botanist is a great job to grind if not one of the most important. This job will allow you to find gathering nodes all over Eorzea to collect different flora. These items can be used by crafters to create potions, food, and even weapons.

The amount of resources you can gather from the world is massive and can even turn a quick profit from some of the lazier denizens of the world. Instead of spending all your hard-earned gil, just go touch some grass.
