Dangote Cement Plant, Gboko has embarked on reforestation within its host community as a practical demonstration of tackling environmental pollution.

At a brief ceremony to mark the 2024 World Environmental Day and kick off activities at the organisation’s premises in Gboko yesterday, Sustainability Analyst, Doreen Akama, said as the foremost cement company in Sub-Saharan Africa, the plant identified with its counterparts globally to champion its environmental sustainability agenda through activities and initiatives targeted at land restoration, building resilience to drought and slowing desertification progress.

She explained that with this year’s theme of ‘land restoration, desertification and draught resilience under the slogan of ‘our land, our future’, the Dangote Group “aimed to inspire individuals, communities and governments to take action to protect the planet and its natural resources.”

Leading other staff of the Gboko plant on a sensitisation campaign to the traditional council chambers of the Mbatyula Community, Akama told the royal fathers that they were going about educating the people on reforestation.
