What will the gaming and streaming landscape look like in 2024? 💡 This time it's Maciej Sawicki taking on the topic ⤵️"We're currently navigating a complex landscape shaped by the aftermath of a hyper-growth period and the COVID-19 pandemic, which, surprisingly, was beneficial for the gaming industry. In this environment, brands are spending more cautiously, esports organizations are grappling with revenue challenges, and the impact of major content creators as marketing channels is waning. In contrast, micro-influencers are coming to the forefront. They offer better returns for brands and are efficiently building their own ventures, significantly boosted by AI technologies. In discussions with peers across the media, esports, and content creation sectors, there's a shared view that while the acute anxieties of the recent past have eased, a rapid return to the highly profitable pre-COVID era isn't on the horizon. Nevertheless, we recognize that this evolving landscape holds opportunities for growth.Entering the new year, the news of substantial layoffs at Twitch and Riot is a key talking point. Interestingly, I believe this might be the final instance where companies can make extensive cutbacks under the guise of 'market conditions.' It seems these market conditions have now reached a point of equilibrium, and it's within these new parameters that we'll be operating moving forward."#Gaming #Esports #Streaming #2024predictions

🎮 #esports, as with #mediaindustry in general, is going through massive changes right now. Perhaps it's an opportunity to evaluate the cost structures of certain leagues & properties, and the tendency to use large studios, as well as production hardware and trucks. #cloudproduction could save 40-60% of the content costs, and allow staff to create & collaborate remotely. 🤷♂️#gamingindustry #liveproduction #teamgrabyo https://lnkd.in/eUyuDGtw

Monday morning manifestation. The gaming and esports industry has gone through an interesting time for the past two years post coming off of record highs during the pandemic years. The past two weeks have delivered for me three of the most interesting and compelling live-streaming events where I have been glued to Twitch for HOURS. Kai Cenat streaming with Kevin Hart was four plus hours of pure comedic gold where Kai gave Kevin a masterclass in the life of a streamer. This was arguably the best thing I've seen on TV either on digital platforms or linear TV. Ludwig (who is one of my personal favorites) held a challenge where he had to make over a thousand three point shots before the stream could end. It was in the background all day for me and Ludwig in fact surpassed the challenge. I got tired simply watching him on stream. The Founding Fathers LAN (FaZe x OpTic x 100T) which is close to my heart delivered one of the cleanest and well produced creator events of all time. Nadeshot vs. Banks was pure entertainment and the stats below demonstrate the fan interest for trying something different. The clips of these events that have circulated across Twitter/Reels/TikTok have generated hundred of millions of views. Live-streaming + clips is going to change the entire marketplace. The industry is going through an evolution that is going to look and feel completely different from that of 2018-2022 and I am fired up on the potential with these creator driven events for brands willing to try something new.

Exciting times ahead for the gaming community! With Twitch's rapid rise to become the leading platform for live streaming video games, there are some significant developments on the horizon that are worth keeping an eye on. Here's my prediction and commentary on the future of Twitch:**Prediction:**- Continued Growth: Twitch's user base and viewership numbers are expected to keep growing steadily as the appeal of live streaming video games continues to rise. The platform shows no signs of slowing down as more gamers and content creators flock to Twitch.- Technology Advancements: With advancements in technology such as improved streaming quality, virtual reality integration, and interactive features, Twitch is likely to offer an even more immersive and engaging experience for users.**General Commentary:**- Community Engagement: Twitch's unique ability to facilitate real-time interactions between gamers and viewers fosters a strong sense of community. This engagement is what sets Twitch apart and keeps users coming back for more.- Brand Partnerships: As Twitch's popularity grows, more brands are likely to explore sponsorship and advertising opportunities on the platform. This could lead to innovative collaborations and new revenue streams for both Twitch and content creators. In conclusion, Twitch's influence on the gaming industry is undeniable, and its future looks bright with endless possibilities for innovation and growth. "Activision Blizzard and Microsoft continued the lay offs todays, laying off a majority of the esports team. There’s about 12 people left on the esports team now."The final death rattle of the Activision-Blizzard Esports strategy concocted in the late 2010s.The ABE strategy & financial models fundamentally never made sense. Created by executives from traditional entertainment & sports at the behest of Bobby Kotick during peak esports investor mania, the strategy essentially envisioned exponentiating the fandoms of #overwatch and #callofduty esports to encapsulate concentric circles of players of the games, gamers generally, and eventually even traditional sports viewers. And it was heavily dependent on expensive live events with franchise team partners who paid for the privilege. Like a traditional sports league.Endemic esports fans like myself pretty much immediately balk at the notion. I have been a fan of Riot esports since they started. However, I'm a fan of watching RTS and MOBA, and even working on Call of Duty League I had a hard time getting jived about watching team vs. team FPS (which I think is tough to watch anyhow).Non-endemics are not going to start watching esports. As folks get older in Millenial and Gen Z, esports will become more and more accepted socially and integrated into public life in the way traditional sports have, but the same model does not make sense for too many reasons to count here. One reason that was distinctly left out of the original ABE model, however, is worth mentioning. And that is a standalone P&L esports league run by a publisher makes 0 sense. 0.Tracking ad revenue from viewership, sponsorships, merchandise, ticket sales, etc. - the traditional monetization model that ABE leadership originally built for its financial projections - initially basically left out the attributable rise in game engagement and monetization until well into the process, and even then the larger organization of Activision (can't speak for Blizzard) generally treated Call of Duty League as a polite burden. From everything the world has read, Overwatch leadership initially viewed OWL as totally anathema. Now #riotgames, on the otherhand, fundamentally understood that esports for a publisher function as a marketing loss leader. I have churned into and out of Riot products over the years, and each time I have churned back in was basically because of Worlds, or Jankos, or Faker, or name your esports-related reason. Riot long ago understood this and has integrated its internal metrics to properly incentivize collaboration and credit across the development and esports organizations. The final irony is that Call of Duty esports has essentially returned to the state it was as Call of Duty World League in early 2019 minus Major League Gaming. And minus millions from franchise partners. And the world moves on.#esports #callofduty #activision #blizzardentertainment #riotgames #esports

Soop, a new livestreaming platform, is set to launch globally on June 5th with the help of LoL esports legend “Faker” and the esports organization DRX.SOOP is made by AfreecaTV Co., Ltd. which is one of the most notable live streaming platforms in Korea. The platform is said to be “tailor-made for esports and gaming fans”, with the platform working with a variety of personalities, game publishers, and tournament organizers to have content on launch. Some features of the platform include having up to 3 channels on one account, free virtual streaming (vtuber), real time translation with subtitles, and a content support for various creative ideas for streamers. These are all quite interesting features that seem to be decently unique in the streaming world. The mobile app is currently available for pre-registration on the Google Play and Apple App Store, with English, Thai, and Chinese webpages available as well. Will be interesting to see what regions this sticks in and how it’ll compare to other streaming platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Kick, and others.Follow #MoreMark for #Business content in #Gaming, #Esports, and #Creators!

💜 Last 10 years: #Twitch was the undisputed king of esports streaming, dominating the scene of streaming platforms.❤️ 2023: #YouTube dominates the esports streaming rankings, a shift driven by the explosive growth of mobile esports, which now eclipses some traditional esports titles in popularity. This is quite an interesting ranking, especially about Peak Viewers on broadcasts. Some YouTube channels have shot to the top due to multilanguage casting, but this does not affect Peak Viewers, which is quite high on all of these YouTube channels compared to Twitch. For Twitch, the leader (by PV) is the Riot Games channel, and that's mainly due to record Worlds for them.YouTube's recommendation system allows you to find new audiences for broadcasts from non-gaming content on the platform. This has a big impact on the promotion of esports events, it's a shame that many EU-NA studios/publishers ignore it.🎨 A little extra effort + some SEO skills = a new free source of viewers)
