Just had a stimulating conversation with Desmond W.X Wang, who really gets learning and organization development. There is little point in pushing training to people if they do not know how they are going to apply and use their learning. We want our learners to first answer for themselves WHY? Why spend time and effort learning about this topic or building this capability? When facing time pressure, stress or anxiety, the answer to WHY leads us to persist. The concept of unlearning and relearning within an Organization has never been more relevant. As the futurist Alvin Toffler wrote, and i quote "The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn "Unlearn what you think you know so that you can relearn what you need to know.
